2018 Honda HR-V Expert Review

Reviewed by Staff Writer

The subcompact Honda HR-V is the automaker's entry-level crossover and slots below the compact CR-V and full-size three-row Pilot SUV. Honda also sells the three-row Odyssey minivan and four-door Ridgeline pickup.

Overview

Because the HR-V arrived for the 2015 model year, the small crossover might be refreshed for the 2018 or 2019 model year, with available active safety tech on higher trims and a mild facelift. We'll update this space as soon as we have official info.

Power for the current, 2017 HR-V comes from a 1.8-liter I-4 rated at 121 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. The engine is backed by either a six-speed manual in front-drive form or a CVT in front- or all-wheel-drive. Three trims are available including LX, EX, and EX-L-Navi. The top-spec model includes leather seating, navigation, and paddle shifters standard.

Standard active safety tech includes multi-angle rearview camera, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and daytime running lights. Honda LaneWatch, a rear-facing camera mounted on the passenger side-view mirror, is included on EX and EX-L-Navi.
