Trim Levels (Interior and Exterior Options)

The 2018 Chevrolet Spark is a subcompact front-drive city car available in four trim levels including a crossover-like variant with additional ground clearance called the Spark Activ.

Spark LS: The base LS trim comes standard with a USB port, Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, 4G LTE connectivity, 15-inch steel wheels, a four-speaker audio system, and a rearview camera.

Spark 1LT: Moving up to the 1LT adds cruise control, power windows and locks, keyless entry, steering wheel controls for the infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, fog lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, and power mirrors.

Spark Activ: The crossover-like Spark Activ adds a slightly raised suspension, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof rails, a unique grille and rear fascia, 15-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, and heated front seats.

Spark 2LT: The range-topping 2LT grade adds keyless start, chrome exterior and interior door handles, rear parking sensors, and an instrument cluster info display.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2018 Chevrolet Spark is powered by a 1.4-liter I-4 with 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque that can be paired to either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT. EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2018 Spark are 29/39 mpg city/highway with the manual and 30/38 mpg with the CVT. The Spark Activ is slightly less efficient at 29/38 mpg with the manual and 30/37 mpg with the CVT.

Safety

The NHTSA hasn't crash tested the 2018 Chevrolet Spark. In IIHS testing, the 2018 Spark received a Good score on the moderate front overlap and side impact test (good is the highest possible score).Optional on the 2LT trim, the Driver Confidence package adds forward collision warning and lane departure warning.

Utility

Cargo space is limited to 11.1 cubic feet with the standard split-folding rear seats in place and 27.2 cubic feet with them folded.

What We Think

In a 2016 First Test, we liked the Spark's quirky interior and bright exterior color options, giving it more character. The car handles surprisingly well with good grip for a city car and the ride is comfortable despite its size. However, large imperfections easily unsettle it and there's plenty of road and engine noise on the highway. The lack of power becomes most apparent at highway speeds with four passengers, where the Spark struggles to get up to speed. Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity options, making onboard navigation redundant as long as you have reception on your cell phone.

Cool Fact

The 2018 Chevrolet Spark is one of three vehicles manufactured my General Motors in Korea. The other two are the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore.
