The Chevrolet Blazer has evolved from a truck-based SUV to a car-based model sporting a Camaro-like face and seating for five. On-road performance is now the Blazer's primary mission, to back up its distinctive looks. Midsize SUV buyers who want something a little classy can try the Premier trim. If you want a sporty and powerful option, the V-6-powered RS has you covered. Just make sure you want an SUV that will attract attention because the Blazer stands out, especially in higher trims.

What We Think
You won't mistake the Chevrolet Blazer for any other SUV. Luckily, the RS V-6 models can back up its looks with great road manners. The Blazer feels buttoned down and engaging thanks to its excellent handling yet doesn't sacrifice much in terms of ride comfort. Should you want a softer ride, non-RS models will give you that thanks to smaller wheels and different tuning for the suspension and steering.
The V-6 adds some gusto to complement the well-tuned chassis, allowing the Blazer to move without much drama. The 2.0-liter turbo-four and base 2.5-liter, however, are merely adequate with the latter struggling once you get on the freeway. Beware of wheel spin on the more powerful engines, especially on the V-6 and turbocharged models.
Get inside, and you'll find more Camaro-inspired bits, further hinting at the Blazer's sporting intentions. Unfortunately, the eye candy doesn't get backed up with quality. The cost-cutting is evident with cheap materials throughout the cabin. The switchgear doesn't feel satisfying to press, and in our testing the drive mode selector knob flexed when it was turned. At least the rear seats are roomy and even have sliding and reclining functions for extra flexibility.
Between the cool looks and engaging drive, the Blazer stands apart from most of its competitors. Too bad its interior can't back up the slick looks with good fit and finish, especially on the upper trims. If you've gotta have a Blazer, we'd recommend a turbo-four with an appearance package or, if it's within the budget, the sportier RS V-6 model.

You need to skip the base model to gain access to active safety features on the Blazer. The Convenience and Driver Confidence package on the 1LT and 2LT models include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Moving up to the 2LT trim or higher gets you the Chevy Safety Assist package, which includes forward collision warning, front automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beams. The 3LT, RS, and Premier grades get both packages as standard equipment.
Technology
Chevrolet's infotainment system in the Blazer features an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a six-speaker audio system, and a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display. Higher trims get built-in navigation and an 8.0-inch instrument cluster display.
An eight-speaker Bose audio system is standard on the Premier grade and optional on the 3LT and RS grades as part of the Sound & Technology package and Enhanced Convenience package, respectively. Adaptive cruise control is bundled with a more advanced front automatic emergency braking system on the RS and Premier grades as part of the Driver Confidence II package.
