2025 Chevrolet Blazer Expert Review

Reviewed by Duncan Brady

We've spilled gallons of digital ink about the SUV of the Year-winning Chevrolet Blazer EV, but let's not forget Chevy also builds a sporty gas-powered crossover with the same name. The five-passenger SUV is positioned between the Equinox and Traverse in Chevy's lineup of gas SUVs, and midsize crossover competitors include the Kia Sorento, Ford Edge, and Honda Passport.

Interested in the fully electric Blazer? See that SUV here.

What’s New

Chevy adds Habanero Orange to the 2025 Blazer’s exterior color palette, while the Redline Edition is now available with Iridescent Pearl Tricoat exterior paint. The Blazer received a midcycle refresh for 2023 with aggressive design touches and a larger center touchscreen. If Chevrolet builds a successor, we expect a fully redesigned Blazer for 2026 or 2027.

What We Think

The Camaro may be dead and gone (for now), but buyers can access some of that sport coupe's design elements and a teeny bit of its character in the 2025 Blazer. Camaro design cues abound, and the Blazer augments the Camaro formula with a big rear seat and lots more cargo space.

It drives decently, too, especially if you opt for the Blazer RS and its naturally aspirated V-6. The base four-cylinder is just adequate, but the V-6's exhaust note and rev-happy character best sell the Camaro-of-SUVs fantasy.

If that fantasy doesn't appeal to you, though, there's less to like about the Blazer. Material quality is mixed and Chevy prioritized design over ergonomics. We've found cargo space is subpar for the segment, too. The infotainment and standard feature improvements for 2023 sweeten the package, but it's clear the gas Blazer is not at the top of Chevrolet's priority list right now, and there are better options in the midsize segment.

Performance and Efficiency

Chevrolet offers the current Blazer with two engine options. Both use a nine-speed automatic transmission. Most trims come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 delivering 228 hp and 258 lb-ft; FWD is included, and AWD is standard. Fuel economy comes in at 22/27-29 mpg city/highway.

Higher trims are available with the 3.6-liter V-6 that's standard in the Blazer RS. With 308 hp and 270 lb-ft, the V-6 Blazer can reach 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds, but fuel economy drops to 18-19/26 mpg.

Safety Ratings and Features

The 2024 Blazer performed pretty well in safety tests, achieving Good ratings in IIHS crashworthiness evaluations (although it remains unrated in the tricky new side and moderate overlap front tests). It also gets a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. As of the 2023 refresh, the Blazer comes standard with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beams, all of which are pretty basic and at this point expected for the segment. Buyers need to get an option package to add adaptive cruise control. A 360-degree camera and enhanced automatic emergency braking are available with the two highest trims.

Cargo Space and Interior Room

The Chevrolet Blazer is generous with its rear seat space, but cargo space positions the midsize SUV closer to some compact alternatives—a Toyota RAV4 offers more room.

Technology

Starting in 2023, standard Blazer equipment included a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Automatic LED headlights and heated front seats are also standard. Trims above the base model unlock power front seats, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, active noise cancelling, ambient lighting, and remote engine start. Lower trims feature six cabin speakers and an eight-speaker Bose setup is available if you shell out a little more cash.

What’s Included With the Blazer RS?

The 2025 Chevrolet Blazer is available in four trims this year: 2LT, 3LT, Premier, and RS. The RS trim is a familiar name across Chevy’s product lineup, one that suggests sportiness and capability. For the 2025 Blazer, it’s more of an exterior appearance upgrade, but the RS is the only model to come standard with the stronger V-6 engine. Other distinct features include a signature grille, front and rear black bowtie emblems, black roof rails, and available 21-inch wheels.

Pricing for the 2025 Blazer RS starts at just over $47,000, the same as last year’s model. Ditto for the entry-level 2LT FWD model. Like the 2024, it starts under $37,000.
