Fuel economy be damned, we live for the Ram 1500 TRX's supercharger whine and rapid acceleration. This super truck won our Truck of the Year competition and carries over into 2024 for one final model year. Competitors include other powerful sport trucks including the Ford F-150 Raptor R, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV.

What We Think
The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX can do pretty much anything other than saving the world from the climate crisis. This thirsty beast sports an enormously powerful supercharged V-8 engine, trick Bilstein suspension, and immense off-road capability. It's great to drive on the road as well, boasting a refined ride and excellent body composure. A suite of modern tech furthers daily livability.
We found a willing trail-running companion in the 1500 TRX when we used it as a support vehicle while traversing the Trans-America Trail with the all-electric R1T. The TRX dominates all terrain, whether called upon to tackle dunes, trails, or rocks.
Other than its poor fuel economy, the Ram 1500 TRX's shortcomings are few. We don't like that its styling is too close to the Ram 1500 Rebel off-road truck, especially given the TRX's eye-watering price tag. Poor five-year ownership costs are also a concern. We found these criticisms easy to overlook, however, when we named the Ram 1500 TRX Truck of the Year.
The 2024 model year is the final installment of Ram's super truck. To celebrate a loud and rambunctious run, Ram is offering a Final Edition model. If this supercharged screamer has caught your eye, now's the time to act.
Performance and MPGs
The 2024 Ram TRX comes with just one enormously powerful engine. Every version of this high-performance truck receives a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that develops 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. All models receive four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The TRX rips from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. Towing and hauling figures are respectable as well. The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX has a maximum payload capacity of 1,310 pounds and can tow up to 8,100 pounds.
There's a tradeoff for this performance. Fuel economy is predictably awful at a mere 10/14 mpg city/highway if the truck is driven in accordance to the EPA's testing methods. We can attest that those are difficult figures to achieve when the engine's howl beckons.
Extinction: TRX Final Edition
Ram is sending off the 1500 TRX with a Final Edition and will limit production to just 4,000 models. These special super trucks are offered with the standard range of paint colors and an additional three edition-specific hues: Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue and Harvest Sunrise. The package includes Satin Titanium bead-lock wheels and a 6.2-liter hood badge and bed decal. Inside the cabin, Ram outfits Patina stitching on the dashboard, a plaque with the build number, and seats embroidered with the TRX logo. There's also carbon fiber covering many of the front row's surfaces. Every time owners fire up their trucks, they'll be reminded they own a Final Edition model thanks to a special splash screen graphic.
Safety Ratings and Features
Safety and 700-hp super trucks don't sound like they'd be synonymous concepts, but Ram manages to combine the two with the 2024 1500 TRX. The regular 2023 1500 has excellent safety ratings, garnering a 2022 Top Safety Pick award from IIHS with Good crash scores in all categories. More recently, the 2024 Ram 1500 Crew Cab received a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. Standard active driver assistance tech includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Cargo Space and Interior Room
All 2024 Ram 1500 TRX models are outfitted with a crew cab, a short bed, and 4WD. Interior space is comparable to the TRX's closest rival, the Ford Raptor R, which boasts more front legroom but falls short on rear legroom. The Ram 1500 TRX has more cargo space in the bed, however.
Technology
Ram outfits every 2024 1500 TRX with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system displayed on a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen alongside a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster. All TRX models receive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available equipment includes a head-up display, ventilated front and rear seats, a wireless charging pad, and a 19-speaker sound system from Harman Kardon.
When 702 HP Isn't Enough
The folks at Hennessey Performance have a solution for Ram 1500 TRX intenders that feel as though the super truck simply isn't super enough. The Mammoth 1000 Ram TRX develops an enormous 1,012 hp and 969 lb-ft of torque thanks to a larger 2.65-liter supercharger, new upper and lower pulleys, stainless-steel long tube headers, high-flow catalytic converters, bigger fuel injectors, high-flow mid pipes, a high-flow air intake, and upgraded crankcase ventilation. Hennessey claims 0-60 mph drops to just 3.2 seconds from the stock truck's 4.1 second sprint. There's also an Overland Edition Hennessey TRX with a rooftop tent.
