2025 Nissan Altima Expert Review

Reviewed by Kelly Lin

Unlike some automakers, Nissan hasn’t abandoned sedans. Slotting above the Versa and Sentra in the automaker’s lineup is the Altima, a stylish but imperfect midsize sedan that competes against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. It returns mostly unchanged for the 2025 model year, but it loses one key feature.

What’s New

·VC-Turbo engine no longer available

·SV Special Edition package

What We Think

Despite improvements since its 2023 refresh, the Nissan Altima still has a ways to go to catch up with segment leaders including the Honda Accord. The CVT automatic remains a sore point, with slow response times and occasional odd surges in acceleration. The brakes, while adequate in performance during our 60-0-mph testing, lack pedal feel. In a few instances with our tester, we experienced strange pedal feedback similar to ABS activation on the street when braking at a stop sign.

That said, we appreciate the Altima’s new upscale design, solid perceived build quality, and accurate steering. The infotainment screen is large, but the user interface feels outdated and the backup camera is low-resolution.

Nissan drops the Altima’s VC-Turbo upgrade engine for 2025, and we’re not particularly surprised. The Accord and Toyota Camry no longer offer turbocharged four-cylinder or V-6 upgrade engines, although offer have something the Altima doesn’t: hybrid availability. Competitive pricing isn’t enough to help the Altima keep up with more refined rivals. There are better options.
