2015 Maserati GranTurismo Expert Review

Reviewed by Stefan Ogbac

The 2015 Maserati GranTurismo gains a limited-edition centennial model in coupe and convertible variants. They are available with four shades of special three-layer exterior paint finish including Magma Red and Inchiostro Blue. Interior appointments include black or white leather with contrast stitching and carbon-fiber accents.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Maserati GranTurismo is a rear-drive luxury sports car available as a coupe or convertible. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V-8 with 454 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is below average with the coupe rated at 13/21 mpg city/highway and the convertible at 13/20 mpg.

Overview

Handling is one of the 2015 Maserati GranTurismo's strong suits with its near-50/50 weight distribution and a well-balanced chassis that makes driving the car rewarding. Putting the car in Sport mode makes the transmission shift more aggressively and adds more weight to the steering. Even though it weighs more than two tons, the GranTurismo has accelerates well thanks to its powerful V-8 engine. Refinement and comfort are strong points with a comfortable ride even with the MC model's performance-oriented suspension.

Interior fit and finish is impeccable in the 2015 GranTurismo with plenty of soft-touch leather used throughout the cabin. There are also plenty of color options, including two-tone schemes, as well as real wood accents. While there are technically seats for four occupants in the car, the ones in the back are small and good only for short trips. Trunk space is disappointing with only 6.1 cubic feet of volume available.

What We Think

The Maserati GranTurismo offers a great balance of comfort performance in an attractive coupe or convertible. In a 2013 First Test review, we said that it's a "satisfying car to drive" because of how well-balanced it is, particularly in Sport mode, where the steering provides more feedback. Build quality is impeccable with plenty of soft-touch materials throughout the cabin and high-grade fabric for the convertible's roof. In a 2011 First Drive we noted that the rear seats "aren't just there for insurance reasons" and offers "a surprisingly tolerable space" for adults; however, there isn't much legroom.
