2019 Honda Accord Expert Review

Reviewed by Michael Cantu

After a 2018 redesign, the 2019 Honda Accord is unchanged for the 2019 model year.

Trim Levels

For 2018, the base LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring trims are offered with the standard 1.5-liter turbo-four. The 2.0-liter turbo-four engine is offered in the Sport, EX-L, and Touring trims while the hybrid powertrain is sold in the base Hybrid, EX Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid trims.

Notable features on the top Touring trim include a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless phone charger, Near Field Communication for compatible Android devices (for Bluetooth pairing and to transfer media files), Wi-Fi hotspot capability, automatic LED headlights, LED fog lights, interior ambient lighting, a traffic sign recognition system, a 10-speaker premium audio system, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, and the Honda Sensing package of driver-assist safety features.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The engines for the 2018 Accord carry over, including the standard 192-hp 1.5-liter turbo-four, an optional 252-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, and an available hybrid powertrain with a combined output of 212 hp. The 2.0-liter gets a 10-speed automatic, and a CVT automatic backs the 1.5-liter engine and the hybrid powertrain; both non-hybrids can be had with a six-speed manual. For the 2018 model year, EPA-rated fuel economy rating ranged from 47/47 mpg city/highway in the Accord Hybrid on the high end to 22/32 for the 2.0-liter engine with the six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

Safety

The Honda Sensing package of driver-assist safety features is standard on every Accord. The features include emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, a lane keeping system, traffic sign recognition, and a road departure mitigation system. Other safety features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. The 2018 Accord received the highest overall rating of five stars from the NHTSA and is considered an IIHS 2018 Top Safety Pick.
