When you want the Chevrolet Colorado's excellence in a slightly different package, try the GMC Canyon. A bit boxier than the Colorado, the Canyon sits at the base of GMC's truck lineup below the Sierra and Sierra HD models.

Performance
The 2020 Canyon is offered with three engines, starting with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit. Mated to a six-speed automatic, the engine produces 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. For more power, try the 3.6-liter V-6, which is good for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft. The V-6 is the only 2020 Canyon engine that's mated to an eight-speed automatic.
When you want the torque and maximum towing capacity of a diesel, GMC offers a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four that's mated to a six-speed automatic. Like the other two engines, the diesel is available with RWD and 4WD.
Towing and Payload
The maximum payload on a 2020 Canyon is just over 1,600 pounds, for extended-cab models with RWD as well as with crew cab models (RWD and 4WD) with the short 5'2" box.
The Canyon is ready to serve if you've got a big load to tow, even if you don't pick the diesel. The 2.5-liter model can tow up to 3,500 pounds; the 3.6-liter V-6 doubles that, with 7,000 pounds of capacity across the line. At the top of the Canyon's lineup for towing is the diesel, which is good for 7,600 to 7,700 pounds, depending on configuration.
