2024 Ford Super Duty Expert Review

Ford's F-Series Super Duty pickups are where you'll find the brand's greatest hauling and towing capability. The lineup starts with the F-250, a model first introduced for 1999 with strong V-8 and turbodiesel powertrains—a formula that remains much the same today. Big truck rivals include the Ram 2500 and GMC Sierra 2500HD .

What's New
The fifth-generation F-250 was new for 2023. Updates for 2024 include:
- All models with a bed can run on both gas and E85 fuel
- Darkened Bronze Metallic and Glacier Gray Metallic Tri-Coat exterior colors
- Premium package equipped XLT models get one year of complimentary Connected Navigation services
- Available Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch feature and Programmable Engine Idle Shutdown now offered for XL and XLT
- Pickup box delete
- The 360-Degree Camera package now offered only with the center high-mounted stop lamp camera
What We Think
For work or play, Super Duty models are some of the most serious trucks Ford offers. Even the entry-level F-250 is a robustly adept behemoth but drives and handles like the smaller F-150. However, we noted that the 2024 F-250 is let down by loose steering feel during our Truck of the Year testing.
We got vibes of the light-duty pickup in the F-250's cabin, too. Of course, towing and hauling capacities are some of the best in the segment, though the high-output turbodiesel powertrain was somewhat loud and unrefined at the limit. Those tasks are easier than ever thanks to some of the new technologies that came out of the 2023 redesign.
Also new with this generation, the F-250 scores a Tremor package that makes it tons of fun (literally) beyond the pavement. There are some on-road compromises that come with it, however, namely a rough ride and imprecise steering performance. Other off-road competitors of this scale—think Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2—offer more livable around town performance. That said, we're hard pressed to find many other faults with the F-250. The big truck crowd will love its lineup of capable powertrains, impressive specs, and wealth of feature content.
Performance and MPGs
The powertrain lineup for the 2024 F-250 is made up of all V-8 engines and 10-speed automatic transmissions. The XL base trim is the only truck that receives the smallest gas engine, but it can now run on E85 like its gasser big brother. At the other end of the lineup, the Limited is the only model that is standard with the high-output turbodiesel.

What Comes in the F-250's Tremor Package?
Already an option for F-150, Ranger, and Maverick, the Tremor off-road package is new to this generation F-250 and available for the King Ranch and Platinum trims. It adds to the truck 35-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires on package-specific 18-inch wheels, an off-road suspension with additional front-end ride height, a limited-slip front differential, and a lockable rear differential. Priced at $4,375, it also gets Rock Crawl and Trail Control drive modes as well as Trail-Turn Assist, which applies brake to the inside rear tire to help tighten the turning radius. Another $3,855 gets you a dealer-installed 12,000-pound Warn winch that sits inside the front bumper.
Safety Systems
Active driver assist features are standard starting with the XLT trim. It features automatic emergency braking, trailer sway control, and hill start assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors are standard with the Lariat, and the King Ranch unlocks adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and lane keeping. Lane centering is standard on the F-250 Limited.
Cab Configurations and Interior Room
Every 2024 F-250 trim is available with a Crew Cab, but other configurations are less common and more affordable. XL and XLT base models are the only ones that offer a three-abreast single-row Regular Cab. Additionally, the Lariat is standard with a SuperCab (aka extended cab), which is optional for the XL and XLT.
Front legroom in every cab measures 43.9 inches, 3.0 inches more than what's provided in the 2023 Ram 2500. In SuperCab form, second-row legroom is 33.5 inches, closer to the GMC Sierra 2500HD double cab's 35.2 inches. For maximum interior space, the F-250 Crew Cab offers 43.6 inches of rear legroom, more than both competitors' largest cab sizes.
Bed Sizes and Features
SuperCab and Crew Cab models can be paired with either a 6.8-foot or 8.0-foot bed, but the Regular Cab is limited to the longer box. Depending on trim, standard features include tiedown hooks, a side step molded into the truck's body, and LED bed lighting. Optional are spray-in or drop-in bedliners, tonneau covers, retractable side steps, work scales, and more. Or you could delete the box altogether (Regular Cabs only).
Technology
Infotainment touchscreens come in two sizes—an 8.0-inch version that's standard on the lowest trims and an available 12.0-inch display. Sound systems feature four, eight, or 14 speakers, the latter two branded by Bang and Olufsen. There's also an optional 12.0-inch driver screen and head-up display. Ford offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, remote start, over-the-air updates, and much more.
Several available features help take the headaches out of towing. We've already mentioned the onboard scales that come with Ford's Smart Hitch, which can also measure tongue weight. The truck's blind-spot monitor can cover trailers up to 33 feet in length, and there's an available turn signal camera that gets the same view. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist help drivers back up to and with a trailer, respectively, and you can also option trailer navigation, which plots the best routes for your rig.
Trim Levels and Prices
The 2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty is available in six trims. Suggested retail pricing ranges from $46,695 for the standard XL base model and swings as high as $99,290 for the Limited with the long bed.
