2025 Ram HD Expert Review

Reviewed by Alex Leanse

Already one of our favorite heavy-duty trucks, the Ram 2500 receives a refresh for 2025. Following its 2019 introduction, updates are made to the truck’s exterior design, interior finishings, tech features, and powertrains. Ram offers the 2500 in many different trims and configurations to suit different needs. Rivals include the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and Ford F-250 Super Duty.

What’s New

●Exterior restyled with different front fascia

●Interior updated with new infotainment and tech amenities

●More standard driver assist features

●High-output turbodiesel engine now available

What We Think

The Ram 2500 was already among our favorite heavy-duty trucks, and the updates made for 2025 address our specific complaints. Finally, the excellent turbodiesel engine comes paired with a suitably modern transmission, which makes examples with the Cummins more drivable, capable, and efficient than before. We’re also glad to see the same engines offered between the 2500 and 3500, instead of the most torque-rich version being reserved only for the 3500.

Tech was already abundant in the Ram 2500, so the truck gaining more and larger digital displays for 2025 will help make the cabin even more impressive. Faster processing power and an available co-pilot screen for the passenger should improve working on the move.

Previously, the nice-driving, hard-working Ram 2500 sat comfortably in the top spot of our heavy duty truck rankings. With the changes applied for 2025, it seems secured in that place.

Performance and MPGs

Although Ram previously offered its highest-output diesel engine only in the 3500, that changes for 2025. Now, the 2500 can likewise be equipped with a turbodiesel 6.7-liter Cummins I-6 engine, which produces 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. The engine is connected to a new eight-speed automatic transmission, with RWD standard and 4WD available. Ram notes that the transmission is robust enough to handle the full engine torque output in first gear. This is the only diesel engine tune offered in Ram’s 2025 heavy-duty truck lineup; there’s no lower or higher output.

As before, a 6.4-liter gasoline V-8 engine is also available. It produces 405 hp, a slight drop from the 410 hp it made previously, but torque continues at 429 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic transmission is also used with the gas engine, along with standard RWD and available 4WD.

Safety and Driver Assist Features

Features such as front automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control are no longer optional on the Ram 2500, instead becoming standard for 2025. Other available driver assist and active safety technologies include lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors. Optional features such as a trailer steering assist system make towing easier.

Technology

For 2025, the Ram 2500 comes equipped with a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, which was previously the upgrade option. Now, the upgrade is a 14.5-inch touchscreen. Both are compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As before, a 12.3-inch digital gauge display is available, but now a 10.3-inch touchscreen ahead of the front passenger is offered, too. Everything runs Ram’s newest Uconnect 5 user interface, which has improved processing power for faster responses. Depending on configuration, a six-, nine-, or 17-speaker audio system is included. Other tech upgrades include twin wireless charging pads, a 360-degree camera, bed-view cameras, and a digital rearview mirror. An available power inverter can send up to 2.4 kW through outlets in the truck bed.

Bed and Cab Configurations

The 2025 Ram 2500 is available in a range of body and bed combinations. A 6-foot, 4-inch-long short bed measures 76.3 inches with the tailgate closed. The longer 8-foot bed provides 98.3 inches within the tailgate. Both measure 66.4 inches across, or 51.0 inches across between the wheelwells, and are about 20 inches deep.

In the base two-door regular cab, three people can sit on the bench seat. Choosing the four-door crew cab brings seats for up to six people, while the Mega Cab has a five-seat configuration focused on spaciousness and comfort.

Which Ram 2500 Trim Level Is Best?

Available trim levels for the 2025 Ram 2500 are Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. The Tradesman is light on fun and features, instead built to get the job done. The Big Horn and Lone Star add useful features and stylish design details, while the Laramie does even more so. The Rebel is the start of Ram’s off-road-capable heavy-duty truck range, while the Power Wagon is more prepared. The Limited Longhorn and Limited trims have all the luxurious amenities Ram offers.
