Vehicle Overview
With an overall length of up to 221.3 inches, the 2014 Ford Expedition is one of the largest and roomiest full-size SUVs on the market. A normal-wheelbase model is also available with an overall length of 206.5 inches. Still, both variants seat up to eight passengers and is powered by a relatively strong eight-cylinder engine.
Specifically, the lone powertrain choice for the 2014 Expedition is a 5.4-liter V-8 that makes 310 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear or four-wheel drive is available. That said, the Expedition is capable of towing up to 9200 pounds in rear-drive, normal wheelbase form (8700 pounds for the four-wheel drive long-wheelbase model). The Expedition rides on fully independent suspension, but its truck-like body-on-frame construction may still result in a chopper highway ride compared to car-based crossovers and SUVs.
The 2014 Expedition is available in three trim levels, with the XLT serving as the base model. Standard features on the XLT include a backup sensor, 18-inch wheels, and SYNC. Opting for the Limited model adds a long list of amenities including leather seats (with heated and cooled front seats, a power liftgate, rearview camera, dual-climate control, and running boards. The King Ranch model adds a number of cosmetic upgrades including two-tone exterior point, special leather tones, and power-adjustable driver and passenger seats. A moonroof and navigation system are optional on all models.
New for 2014
New for 2014 is a new optional mechanical rear load-leveling suspension system, which replaces the outgoing air-operated system.
