2014 Dodge Durango Expert Review

Vehicle Overview

The Dodge Durango enters 2014 with some stylistic improvements, content changes, and most importantly, a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Available in rear- or all-wheel drive, the refreshed 2014 Dodge Durango is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 making 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the eight-speed and with all-wheel drive, the combo is good for 17/24 mpg city/highway. Optional is a 5.7-liter V-8 producing 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The Durango V-8 can tow up to 7400 lbs.

Though we've yet to test the 2014 Dodge Durango, we entered the pre-refresh model in our three-row crossover comparison test. In that test, it beat out the Toyota Highlander, Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot, and Ford Explorer, losing only to the Mazda CX-9. We loved the Durango's looks, ride, and handling, but dinged it for its five-speed automatic transmission, and poor infotainment system. It seems as if Dodge took our words to heart, as the 2014 update addresses all these niggles.

In addition to the new transmission, the 2014 Durango gets updated headlights, racetrack taillights, a new Uconnect infotainment system, and new HD-quality rear-seat entertainment options.

New for 2014

The 2014 Dodge Durango gets a major update this year. The headline is found bolted to the 2014 Durango's engine: an eight-speed automatic transmission, which will help boost fuel economy and acceleration. With the new transmission comes other updates -- the Durango now has a revised interior with higher-quality materials, an upgraded Uconnect infotainment system, and new LED running lights up front, and Dodge's signature "Racetrack" LED taillights out back.
