Vehicle Overview

The Ram heavy duty range encompasses the three-quarter-ton 2500 and one-ton 3500 models. With both gas and diesel engine options, dual-rear wheel setups, and multiple bed and cab configurations, the Ram heavy duty trucks have a solution for almost any job.

The standard engine for all 2500 and 3500 models is the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, which produces 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, and comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The optional engine is the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel I-6, which produces 385 hp and an earth-shaking 850 lb-ft. That engine is capable of running on B20 biodiesel, and comes mated to a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission or class-exclusive six-speed manual. All Ram 2500 and 3500 models come standard in rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is available as are multiple rear axle ratios. The Ram 2500 can tow up to 18,350 pounds, depending on trim and equipment, while the 3500 can tow up to 30,000 pounds. Truck bed lengths range from 6'6" to 8", while cab styles include regular, crew, and Mega Cab.

For 2013, the Ram heavy duty models get redesigned suspension and steering systems, and new crossmembers to reinforce the frame. The trailer hitch system has been upgraded to Class 5 specification and can now handle 17,000-pound loads. Dually 3500 models come standard with four-channel electronic stability control, and all HD models receive the Ram Active Air intake system for drawing cool air from the front of the truck.

Inside, Ram HD models have the option of Chrysler's Uconnect infotainment, which provides Bluetooth connectivity and in-vehicle Wi-Fi access. The interior has been updated for 2013, and can be taken plain, no-nonsense with the base Tradesman or lavish with the Laramie Long Horn.

New for 2013

The Ram HD lineup was revised for 2013, with a reinforced frame and redesigned suspension facilitating a max towing capacity of 30,000 pounds for the Ram 3500. The interior was also updated, with the next-gen Uconnect infotainment system now available.
