2025 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Expert Review

Reviewed by Alex Leanse

The Evoque evokes the Range Rover’s elegant styling and luxurious aura in a compact, less expensive package. This nameplate has been part of Land Rover’s lineup since 2011, and the Evoque won MotorTrend’s SUV of the Year award for 2012. The current second-generation Evoque arrived for 2020 and received several updates for 2024. Rivals to the 2025 Evoque include the BMW X1, Volvo EX30, and Cadillac Optiq.

What’s New

For 2024 the Evoque was treated to a refresh that brought a new infotainment system, standard wireless charging pad, additional exterior paint and wheel choices, and a simplified trim structure. For 2025, the Evoque is mostly carryover, receiving minor revisions to paint offerings.

What We Think

Although it’s rather stylish and shares swanky connotations with the Range Rover, the Evoque isn’t very competitive among small luxury SUVs.

Not only is the Evoque slower than its rivals, but it’s also less fuel-efficient. Aside from speed, the Evoque’s powertrain is unrefined, suffering from abrupt throttle responses and rough transmission shifts. On smooth pavement, the Evoque moves with enjoyably nimble handling, but rough surfaces can bring out harsh suspension responses, especially when large wheels are equipped.

Inside the Evoque, design cues and tech features are similar to higher-end Range Rover models. However, material quality isn’t great, and the seat padding is firm. As it contains every adjustment for climate control, the infotainment arrangement is more complicated than it should be. Furthermore, we wish there was more room for passengers and cargo in the Evoque’s cabin.

Factor in the Evoque’s steep starting price, and its appeal dims further. You have to love how it looks or insist on having a Range Rover for this small luxury SUV to make sense.

Performance and MPGs

Every Evoque is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that produces 249 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. That engine is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. In MotorTrend testing, 0–60-mph acceleration took 7.5 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 20/27 mpg city/highway.

Safety Features

Standard driver assist and active safety features on the 2025 Evoque include front automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, and front and rear parking sensors.

Cargo Space and Interior Room

We’ve found the Evoque’s interior to feel more spacious than its numbers suggest. Even so, there’s no denying that rivals provide more room for passengers and cargo.

Which Evoque Trim Level Is Best?

The Evoque is offered in base S and higher-end Dynamic SE trims. Our pick is the Evoque S. This small SUV is quite expensive to start but fortunately comes reasonably well equipped with features such as adaptive cruise control, a wireless charging pad, a premium audio system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic moonroof. The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque S starts at slightly more than $50,000.
