2015 Infiniti Q60

The 2015 Infiniti Q60 adds a new trim on the Q60S model called the Limited, which features a Midnight Black grille, exterior mirror covers and trunk spoiler, stainless steel sport muffler, performance-tuned suspension and steering, contrast stitching in the interior, larger brakes with aluminum-alloy opposed calipers, a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD), and gloss black 19-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires. Now available are two new exterior colors, Hagane Blue, which is available in both coupe and convertible, and Majestic White, a new addition to the coupe's color palette.

Vehicle Summary

Formerly known as the G37, the 2015 Infiniti Q60 is a two-door four-seat luxury sports car available as a coupe or a hardtop convertible and with rear- or all-wheel-drive. A 3.7-liter V-6 producing between 325-343 hp and 267-273 lb-ft of torque depending on the model is paired to a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is slightly lower than average for the class at 19/27 mpg city/highway for rear-drive coupes with the automatic, 17/25 mpg with the manual, and 18/25 mpg with all-wheel drive. Convertibles are less fuel efficient than their coupe siblings at 18/26 mpg with the automatic and 16/24 mpg with the manual.

Overview

Performance is a Q60 strong suit thanks to it essentially being a coupe and convertible version of the much lauded G37 sport sedan, the predecessor of the Q50 that's now known as the Q40. Its V-6 engine provides plenty of power to move it around but the available seven-speed automatic is no longer up to par with gearboxes used in competitors and is slow to respond. Despite its weight, the Q60 handles respectably with well-tuned steering and chassis that makes it great to drive on a twisty back road.

Interior fit and finish is on par with the class, hiding the Q60's age fairly well even without the Q50's split screen layout and fresher-looking instrument cluster. While there are technically four seats, the rear positions are only usable for children due to the Q60's sloping roofline but the front seats offer plenty of support and are ideal for sporty driving. Trunk space on the other hand is puny in the coupe at 7.4 cubic feet and a respectable 11.8 cubic feet in the convertible; however, with the retractable hardtop stowed, it gets reduced to 2.5 cubic feet.

What We Think

Even though it has been around for over seven years, the Infiniti Q60 remains a good choice for buyers searching for a luxury sports coupe or convertible. In a 2014 Q60 Convertible First Test review, we said that the car performs respectably with plenty of power on tap; however, the automatic transmission is slow to respond during spirited driving. The stiffer suspension in the coupe, on the other hand, allows the Q60 to corner admirably, making it fun to toss around.

In a 2010 G37S 20th Anniversary Edition coupe First Test review, we noted that due to the car "exhibited little to no chassis roll" thanks to its speed-sensitive and four-wheel active steering system, which complements the stiffer suspension setup and the larger wheels wrapped in performance tires. Interior space, on the other hand, is a weak point because there's not much room for passengers especially in the rear while cargo space is at a premium particularly in the coupe. In a comparison test against the Cadillac CTS Coupe, we noted that the Q60 coupe's interior is cramped with limited passenger room and a tiny trunk, limiting its usability.
