2022 Ford Super Duty Expert Review

Some jobs require more than even the F-150 can handle; for them, the Ford's F-250 Super Duty pickup may be a good pick. The current, fourth-generation model was introduced for the 2017 model year and got a refresh for 2020 that included a burly new 7.3-liter V-8, an updated Power Stroke turbodiesel V-8, and a Tremor off-road variant. This year's headline is a colossal new touchscreen infotainment system. The 2022 Ford F-250 competes with other heavy duty pickups including the Ram 2500, GMC Sierra 2500HD, Nissan Titan XD, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD.

Ford F-250 Engine Options
The heart of any work truck lies under the hood and Ford provides a few options for the F-250. Some buyers may scoff at Ford's new hybridized, twin-turbo V-6 for the F-150 (even though it's as quick as a Raptor), but worry not—every F-250 comes with a V-8 under the hood. RWD is standard and 4WD is optional.

Safety
Even work trucks no longer have an excuse to omit modern safety features, and almost everything you want is available on the F-250. Automatic emergency braking is standard on XLT trims and above, lane departure warning is included on Lariat trims and higher; both features are optionally available on the base XL. Other available features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a 360-degree camera system, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage.
F-250 Lariat Sport Appearance Package
Although Ford doesn't build an F-250 Raptor, the automaker is adding a revised appearance package for 2022 that lends the F-250 some sport truck flair. The Lariat Sport package includes a body-color finish for the bumpers, side mirrors, and front grille, plus a chrome exhaust tip and black running boards.
Blacked-Out F-250
Last year's Lariat Black Appearance package is newly available on XLT models for 2022. In addition to 20-inch black-painted wheels, the package adds body-color bumpers and grille bars, 6.0-inch black running boards, and blacked-out versions of the Ford's Blue Oval badges front and rear.
The F-250 Has a 12.0-inch Screen?
This is the real headline for the 2022 F-250: whereas last year's truck topped out with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, the new model boasts a massive 12.0-inch system standard on Lariat trims and above. Unlike the Ram's tablet-style display, the F-250's big screen is landscape oriented and features split-screen functionality, plus it includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Base XL variants still make do with a 4.2-inch infotainment system and XLT models include last year's 8.0-inch setup.
