2020 Chevy Corvette C8 First Test: We Have The Numbers

Here it is: our first instrumented test of the monumental new Corvette. We drove the car as hard as possible around the skidpad and figure 8, place paces at the dragstrip. Want to know the numbers?

From the Pressroom: the 2020 Corvette Stingray

We walked away from testing the 2020 Corvette C8—our Car of the Year—hugely impressed. Still, our tight figure-eight handling course revealed some less-than-perfect performance mid-corner. From the Press Room: the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This time at Willow Springs, Randy Pobst is doing an experiment: What happens when you replace the 2020 Corvette’s high-performance Michelin tires with an inferior set? First he’s out setting a super-quick lap that makes full use of the ‘Vette’s grip and power. Then, it’s back to the pits for a refit with some inexpensive, low-end rubber. With advice from Tire Rack’s Matt Edmonds, Randy’s back out on the tarmac. See what a difference tires make.

This near-enough the base Corvette. Yet, a 6-2-liter V-8 rated at almost 500 horsepower is nothing to sneeze at, especially in the ‘Vette’s dynamic mid-engined layout. How does this naturally-aspirated motor do in the brand-new car?
