Project Car - All The Rest

Justin FivellaWriter

In the five years we’ve been at it, Project Car has built over 30 project cars from mild to wild and from likely to unlikely. Although some have been stronger features than others, each one deserves a mention. Most of the builds you might remember, but their are some you may have never seen; so here’s a look at the rest of the projects to fall under our wrench.

Project Street

'95 Honda Civic LX

Featured:Project Car Issue 1

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

With some bolt-ons and a hit of NOS this little EG gained nearly 50 whp and looked the biz as well.

Project Stick

'90 Nissan 240SX SE

Featured:Project Car Issue 1

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

This was the project on our inaugural cover, the first S13 and the first SR20DET swap—that’s a lot of firsts!

Project Sleeper

'98 Acura Integra GS-R

Featured:Project Car Issues 2, 3 and 4

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

What started as an all-motor monster was soon turbo’d for serious thrust. Although it never ran at its potential, it had all the right pieces, but was in need of more attention.

Project Revivify

'92 Nissan Sentra SE-R

Featured:Project Car Issue 2

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

After a host of bolt-ons under the hood, a carbon hood and a bodykit we had hoped to boost the little beast, but sadly the car went bye-bye long before we saw it to the finish.

Project Cruiser

'99 Chevrolet Cavalier RS

Featured:Project Car Issue 2

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

Yup, that's right, we built a Chevy Cavalier. Sure it wasn’t the most ideal of chassis, but at least our RS had a stick which gave it a few more ounces of respect.

Project Carver

'98 VW GTI VR6

Featured:Project Car Issue 3

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

Our Mk3 GTI VR6 was the first and only Euro to grace the pages of PC. This street car had tons of top-drawer parts like coilovers, brake upgrades and lots of engine tricks that significantly boosted power.

Project Lap

'91 Mazda Miata

Featured:Project Car Issues 3, 4 and 6

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

This little coupe was the first Mazda to roll through the garage. We weren’t quite happy with the results, and are making plans for a do-over.

Project Euromestic

'01 Ford Focus ZX3

Featured:Project Car Issue 4

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (owned by a friend)

Proving that we’ll build just about anything, we added a bodykit, bolt-ons and some nitrous to our Euro engineered domestic hatch.

Project VIP

'94 Infiniti Q45

Featured:Project Car Issues 4

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

We jumped on the short but equally classy VIP bandwagon with our bagged to the ground, rollin’ on 20s, kitted and fitted, Q45. Please remind us not to do that again.

Project Envy

'96 Honda Accord EX Coupe

Featured:Project Car Issue 5

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (owned by CFO Will)

This rare bird was a coupe and a stick, now that’s an Accord that’s hard to find. Suspension, engine and exterior mods were boosted with a 50-shot of juice.

Project Dirty's Daily

'94 Saturn SC2

Featured:Project Car Issue 5

Last Known Whereabouts:Las Vegas (sold)

Again going down a road nobody else dared to, we took an early DOHC Saturn and made a wicked DD for Dirty that was not only fast (for a Saturn), but also got 42 mpg.

Project GS

'98 Lexus GS400

Featured:Project Car Issue 6

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

CFO Will was itching for some style so we built him a budget GS-Foe-Hundo that was G’d up from the feet up.

Project Street Sweeper

'99 Honda Civic EX

Featured:Project Car Issue 8

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

The first EK to grace our pages featured a plethora of parts and a slammed stance. It wasn’t fast, but it was a great all-arounder.

Project Altima

'95 Nissan Altima GXE

Featured:Project Car Issue 8

Last Known Whereabouts:NorCal (sold)

Nobody believed us when we said we were building a first Gen. Altima, but we did. It didn’t turn out half bad thanks to Dirty’s countless hours of scrubbing and buffing.

Project Canyon Cruiser

'07 Scion TC

Featured:Project Car Issue 9

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

The white Scion was our first project from this decade. Though a mild build, it was a good representation of an entry level build for this car.

Project Hi-Fi

'93 Honda Prelude

Featured:Project Car Issue 9

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

We gave the un-loved Honda a little lust with a few bolt-ons and a Hi-Fi stereo system. Perhaps next time, we’ll find something with an H22 motor that we can properly molest.

Project UTI

'90 Toyota Celica

Featured:Project Car Issue 10

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (Owned by UTI student)

For the first time ever, we paired with the car professionals at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) to help us pimp a student’s ride. The low-buck Celica was a creation of the kids and a great success at that.

Project Bubble Butt

'92 Honda Civic Hatch

Featured:Project Car Issue 11

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (Still owned by Andy)

We completed the vaunted LS/VTEC head swap on our resident EG hatch, hooked it up with quality suspension and pitted it against a G20.

Project G-Thang

'96 Infiniti G20

Featured:Project Car Issue 11

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (Still owned by Alex)

This unlikely candidate went heads-up against our EG hatch thanks to an SR20VE swap, dope wheels and a stack of suspension parts.

Project Red

'07 Honda Civic Si

Featured:Project Car Issue 16

Last Known Whereabouts:SoCal (sold)

Blessed with a motor from the gods, we unlocked the ECU, added some bolt-ons and let the K20 rev free. This fabulous four-door looked good and got with it.
