Hercules Terra Trac AT II Tire Review
Longer Lasting, Better Traction
When the staff of Off-Road magazine tried the original Terra Trac AT all-terrain tire, they were shocked at how this tire had flown under their radar for so long. By the time the September 2013 Biggest Little Tire Test story hit newsstands, Hercules had already released an improved Terra Trac AT II.
With a new silica-infused AT-C tread compound, 29-percent more siping, and 12-percent more lateral grooves, the new Terra Trac IIs not only get better traction in wet weather but also last longer. A 60,000-mile mileage warranty can almost guarantee that.
Hercules also redesigned the tread, pairing together intermediate and center tread blocks, and tying them together with tie-in bars that help improve tread stability and deliver excellent handling.
Dirt and Mud
The Terra Trac AT II reacted quickly when cornering in the dirt, catching edges, and biting a bit more than some other all-terrains. The Terra Trac AT IIs also show minimal evidence of off-road play, as tread blocks include beveled and rounded tread blocks to help resist irregular tire wear.
While there are some deep tusk grooves in the center of the tread, anything more than light mud will be too slick—as with most AT tires. Try a Terra Trac D/T or even a Trail Digger MT if you see mud more often than not.
Snow and Wet Highway
This an excellent tire under wet and snowy conditions. Large amounts of siping and wide-strike-pattern circumferential grooves create more lateral edges that help improve snow traction. Even in heavier rains, water seems to be channeled out from under the tire well enough to maintain good traction on pavement.
