What's Going on With Chrysler? Not Dead Yet

Plans have not changed for a string of EVs, including an electric minivan, Chrysler CEO says.

Chrysler is still alive and plans to stay that way, says brand CEO Chris Feuell. The brand will survive and is not straying or stepping back from its product plan that includes a introducing a new electric vehicle every year starting at the end of 2025. The brand that currently relies on a single model has the full support of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares and the broader company board. Feuell says they have approved the strategy and love the direction so far.

The bravado is against a backdrop where Stellantis has seen its revenue, sales, share, and profit margins fall from lofty peaks, raising the specter that maintaining all of its 15 brands is not viable. Chrysler and Dodge are among the U.S. brands seen as most vulnerable. Chrysler currently offers a single model: the Pacifica minivan, offered with only a combustion engine or as a plug-in hybrid. The Pacifica is still at the top of the minivan segment and winning comparison tests like the recent minivan shootout by our team at MotorTrend, where the 2024 Pacifica impressively beat the newcomer 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the 2025 Honda Odyssey, the 2024 Toyota Sienna, and the 2025 Kia Carnival.

Road-Tripping 2025 Chrysler Pacifica FAV Edition

The Pacifica is the only plug-in hybrid in the segment and the automaker keeps adding versions to keep it fresh, like the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica FAV (family adventure vehicle) Edition for outdoor road-tripping. On display at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Pacifica FAV comes with a Thule rooftop cargo carrier for gear, black 18-inch wheels and fascia, all-weather floor mats and cargo mat, and some new color options. It will be available in early 2025. The automaker is taking orders now.

The current Pacifica was launched in 2020 as a 2021 model and is due for a refresh in 2026 for the 2027 model year. It will be a significant refresh, Feuell says, with a new front clip and design cues from Chrysler Halcyon electric sedan concept.

First Chrysler EV Due Early 2026

Plans are still a go for a series of new EVs. Chrysler initially planned to launch its first new EV, a large two-row crossover, in 2025, but that timetable has shifted to early 2026 now. We will finally see the first SUV at the end of 2025. Don’t expect it to look like the AirFlow concept that was first shown in 2022 as things have evolved a lot since then. It will use the STLA Large platform that can accommodate internal combustion engines and hybrids as well as pure EVs. The production vehicle is not likely to be called AirFlow, nor will it revive the 300 name (which could return for a different future product). And Chrysler will not adopt only alphanumeric names.

Electric Pacifica Part of Future Portfolio

There will be a new EV every year afterward the SUV in 2025, including a three-row SUV, culminating in a new, broader portfolio of EVs before the end of the decade. The lineup will include an electric minivan which will keep the Pacifica name. There is equity in the name, Feuell says, so there is no reason to change it just because it adds a new powertrain. She will not give timing but says it is still a few years out.
