The 5 Coolest Porsches that Jerry Seinfeld is Selling at Auction
Drool-worthy.If Jerry Seinfeld is known for something other than the eponymous TV show, his love for all-things-Porscheusually tops the list. Following the wave of success he achieved in the 1990s, Jerry has amassed a Porsche collection that rivals the heritage collection housed in Stuttgart itself. Now, Jerry says his collection has gotten a little too big, so he is liquidating a sizeable portion of it at Gooding & Co's Amelia Island auction. Here are five of our favorites from the upcoming sale.
1958 Porsche 597 Jadwagen
Thought the Cayenne was the first Porsche with off-road credentials? Take a look at this warzone-ready Porsche 597 from Jerry's collection. Created as a prototype for the German army following World War II, just 71 of these left the factory, 49 of which were civilian-spec. Motivation came from a 1.5-liter flat-four engine nicked from the Porsche 356, sporting a single carburetor. The engine produced 50 hp, allowing the little "Hunting Car" to reach up to 62 mph.
This low, lithe silhouette of a car is one of the all-time greats. It saw great success for Porsche during its road racing heyday, but probably found its most infamous status as the car in which Hollywood legendJames Dean perished in on a California highway. Jerry's example is covered in uncommon bright blue paint.
