The Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s Stubbiest Configuration Is Back!
Fans of the regular-cab, short-box Silverado rejoice—it returns for 2022.There's a group of truck fans who love the single cab pickup truck that's affixed with the shortest bed possible. The Regular Cab, as Chevrolet calls its single cab two-door full-size truck, makes for a phenomenal sport truck, muscle truck, or even simply work truck—if you get the options right. And, well, provided Chevy even offers it in the first place.
Since model year 2019, Chevy hasn't. Now, according to GM Authority, the Regular Cab, short-bed Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup is back for 2022, which is something of a big deal because not all half-ton truck manufacturers even offer a single cab any more: Ram (on the latest 1500, at least), Nissan, and Toyota don't. During the shorty's hiatus, Chevrolet has only offered its Regular Cab Silverado with the long bed. To round out the four current Silverado configurations, the Double Cab gets the Standard Bed, while the four-door Crew Cab gets the Short Bed or Standard Bed.
For some, the single cab truck is the quintessential pickup truck with the perfect proportions for slamming, air-bagging, burning rubber, or hugging corners. As for lifting—eh, the Regular Cab looks goofy but the shorter wheelbase could be good for off-roading.
Note that this stubby Silverado configuration already exists in South America and the Middle East, for example, with the latter getting RST and Trail Boss Regular Cab, Standard Bed trims. But for the past couple of years, it has been a forbidden fruit for stateside Chevy Silverados.
There are two things to note about to the Regular Cab, Standard Bed configuration of the refreshed 2022 Chevrolet Silverado.
First, the Regular Cab, Standard Bed will be offered exclusively in the Work Truck (WT) trim, the base trim. That's not exactly devastating news, as the muscle truck and sport truck guys 'n gals are likely to customize these trucks anyway, so the more base the trim comes, the better. Many would opt for a true "stripper" truck if the option existed. The WT trim also means it wouldn't get the new Silverado interior, another bonus for those who would opt to personalize the space anyway.
