Sync 3 for the 2016 Ford Transit vans and wagons is said to offer faster processing speed and feature more conversational voice recognition. Other features include a smartphone-like touchscreen and revised graphical user interface. A rearview camera with trailer hitch assist technology is now standard equipment on all van and wagon body styles. A rearview mirror-integrated backup camera display is available on Transit cutaway and chassis cab models.
Dual sliding side cargo doors are also new for Ford Transit vans with medium or high roofs. Ford says the new option bumps the available body configurations up from 47 options for the 2015 model to 58 configurations for 2016.
The speed-limiting function on the Transit can now be set at 70 mph, joining the 65-mph and 75-mph top speed limit function available on the current model. Ford says the speed-limiting feature encourages safe driving and reduces fuel consumption. Available features for customers who upfit the Transit include auxiliary fuse panels for accessories, an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery (on gas models) or equipment, and a heavy-duty alternator to power extra lights.
Other new equipment includes front dome lights with map lights and theater dimming, while the USB jack has been moved to the center console for easier access. Additionally, four new colors have been added to the exterior paint palette including Shadow Black, Caribou, Magnetic, and Race Red.
