2020 Ram 1500 Built to Serve Edition Honors Armed Forces

Ram is offering a new special edition that will honor the U.S. Armed Forces with unique, patriotic touches. The 2020 Ram 1500 Built to Serve is based on the Big Horn trim level, with lots of thoughtful additions to honor each branch.

Each specific branch's 1500 Built to Serve edition will be offered in two special colors, with dedicated interior stitching as well. The U.S. Army truck will be painted Gator Green or Diamond Black with Light Frost contrast interior stitching. The Navy is honored with Ceramic Gray or Patriot Blue with Light Ambassador Blue stitching. Air Force trucks get painted Anvil or Billet Silver with Light Diesel Gray stitching. The Marines get dedicated Tank or Flame Red paint, with interiors stitched in Core Green. Finally, the Coast Guard's colorway is Spitfire or Bright White paint, with orange interior stitching. Eight of the ten colors will be limited to 1,000 units, while the Coast Guard trucks will be limited to 500 units each.

Exterior alterations include "Built to Serve" and black American flag decals on the bedsides. As could be expected of a modern special edition, the 1500 Built to Serve leans heavily on blacked-out exterior accents, including the grille and surround, bumpers, lighting bezels, side steps, badges, and dual 4-inch exhaust tips. A dark, Technical Gray finish adorns the 20-inch aluminum wheels, and body-color flares add some more personality to the exterior.

The most interesting changes happen on the interior. Embroidered Velcro panels adorn each front seatface and inboard seat upholstery panel, allowing owners to swap on patches of their choosing—regiment regalia, flags, names, slogans, etc. Furthermore, the front seatbacks are covered in PALS/MOLLE webbing, to which additional equipment and pouches can be mounted. The dash, console, and doors are accented with a dark-finished chrome trim Ram calls Black Onyx. There's also a lockable bin in the console and standard all-weather slush mats.

Since each Ram 1500 Built to Serve special edition comes with the 4x4 Off-Road Group package standard, those floor mats might be pressed into carpet protection duty frequently. The package includes an electronic-locking rear differential, hill descent control, heavy-duty front and rear shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, and a full cadre of skid plates and recovery hooks. Combined with what we think is already a pretty capable pickup, the package will turn the Built to Serve into a legitimate weekend warrior.

The truck company launched the 1500 Built to Serve special edition on Veteran's Day, associated with its Ram Nation community service initiative. Part of Ram Nation's goals are a cumulative 1.3 million volunteer hours from its members by next Veteran's Day, November 11, 2020.
