2023 Maserati SUVs: What’s New for the Levante and Grecale
With the new Grecale, Maserati doubles its SUV lineup
The concept of a Maserati SUV was ludicrous prior to the introduction of the Levante for 2017, but crossovers are now the Italian automaker's sales leaders and the vehicles funding development of supercars like the new MC20 . Call it surprising, but this is modern Maserati. Here are the changes to Maserati's SUV lineup for 2023.

The Maserati Grecale is only the second SUV in the company's history, and it's an all-new nameplate for 2023. Smaller than the existing Levante, the Grecale shares a platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it's sized more closely to the former.
At launch, the smaller SUV is offered with a mild hybrid 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder developing up to 325 hp. The Trofeo variant (pictured) boasts the 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V-6 that Maserati initially developed for the MC20 supercar, as opposed to the twin-turbo V-8 fitted to Maserati's existing Trofeo models. Maserati developed the Grecale with hybrid and electric options in mind, so keep an eye out for new powertrains in the coming years.

Pros
- Spacious interior
- Impressive collection of interior displays
- Comfortable and communicative ride/handling balance
Cons
- Underwhelming four-cylinder engines
- More expensive than its competitors
- Electric variant isn't available yet

Maserati's larger SUV, the Levante , carries over unchanged for 2023. Even so, don't go thinking this is the same SUV that entered the market six years ago. A 2021 midcycle refresh brought revised front and rear styling, better resolution and updated graphics for the infotainment system, improved driver assist tech, and Maserati Connect smartphone compatibility. Given we are now two years out from the 2021 face-lift, it would make sense for Maserati to introduce a second-generation model for 2024 or 2025.

Pros
- Excellent Ferrari-built engine options
- Compliant suspension tuning
- Awesome V-8 performance
Cons
- Cramped cargo area
- Some switchgear from cheaper cars
- Mushy brake pedal
