STAR RATINGS:
CHEVROLET AVEO/AVEO5
BASE PRICE RANGE:$12,120-$15,520BODY TYPE:Sedan, hatch
WHAT'S NEW:A very slight horsepower bump moves the 1.6L's output from 106 to 108, while lower numeric fourth- and fifth-gear ratios on the 5M gearbox increases fuel economy by reducing engine rpm at higher speeds. The Aveo5's rear spoiler is now standard on the 2LT trim level, and all models can be painted in Wintergreen Metallic.
BEST BUY:The Aveo5 with the reworked 5M tranny offers good gas mileage at a decent price.
SUM UP:Beats walking. Just.*
CHEVROLET CAMARO/SS
BASE PRICE RANGE:$23,040-$31,040BODY TYPE:Coupe
WHAT'S NEW: Chevy has met every hope and dream fans pinned to long-awaited Camaro. From exterior design to interior trim, from engine offerings to performance handling, the reborn ponycar successfully integrates classic character with modern technology. New Camaro is available in 3.6L V-6 RS and 6.2L V-8 SS (400 hp for the 6A; 426 for 6M).
DRIVER'S CHOICE:The SS manual with its 26 extra ponies and launch control is extra icing on the bragging rights cake.

CHEVROLET COBALT/SS
BASE PRICE RANGE:$15,800-$24,250*BODY TYPE:Sedan, coupe
WHAT'S NEW:With the anticipated arrival of the all-new Cruze world car, the Cobalt is relegated to the soon-to-be gone back burner, a shame since the Cobalt SS is a zippy, decent-looking econobox with good performance credentials and an extensive slate of extras. The only changes for 2010 are two new exterior colors, and revised interior color and trim offerings.
COOL FACT:Cobalt SS set a front-drive lap record at the fabled Nurburgring.

WHAT'S NEW:Having received a rear-cargo-area load's worth of changes in 2009, this year's version of Chevy's successful retromobile remains basically the same. The very limited changes for 2010 are three new exterior paint colors, a revised Cashmere interior color scheme, and, offering the only excitement this model year, an optional rearview camera.
BEST BUY:The base model HHR for utility, value, and cool looks.
