General Motors has announced a recall for around 313,000 vehicles for a leaky rear axle pinion seal that was not manufactured to proper specifications, according to various media reports. The leak has already led to one accident caused by a drivewheel locking due to the leak.

Around;276,000 of the vehicles affected are located in the U.S., while some 38,000 more were sold in Mexico, Canada, the Middle East, and Asia. The recall includes the 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS, STS (a 2006 STS is pictured), and SRX, the 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice, and the 2007 Saturn Sky. According to GM, a relatively large number of warranty claims have been filed already due to the leak.

The recall is slated for February 2008, when dealers will replace the pinion seal under warranty.
