An “All of the Above” Honda S2000 Built for Street Duty
Appearance, performance, or reliability? This AP1 has all three. The line drawn between streetcar and show car is fairly thin and can easily be pushed a little to the left or to the right, and some cars, like this 2002 Honda S2000, have no problem proudly walking that line. And when it comes to car building, like anything in life, good things come to those who wait - but let's be real, no one likes to wait.
Dreaming In Dollars and Cents
Andrew Abalos, owner of this AP1, had no choice but to be patient and wait until his financial status finally caught up with what he regards as his "dream car," at least it was when he was in his 20s. Back then, the timing wasn't right and admittedly, neither were the dollars. Things have changed dramatically over the years and that young man that used to daydream about blasting through his local canyons back then, now has the financial status to make that happen - the Ferrari parked next to his AP1 can attest to that. Andrew adds, "Even after owning exotic cars now and much newer sports cars, this S2000 still gets my soul moving - it always takes me back to my 20s."
Influenced by the stance movement that virtually took over the Honda community for a long period of time, the idea was to use a widebody kit to house much wider wheels without resorting to stretched tires like so many others. In the end, 18x11 rear and 10-in. wide front Work Meister were chosen and carry the bold sidewall of Falken Azenis RT615K+. Just behind the front wheels sit 13-in. rotors with AP Racing calipers.
The larger wheel size would run well past the factory arches, but Andrew had that covered, literally, with Circuit Garage's widebody front and rear fender mods. The additional 45mm up front and 75mm in the rear are sufficient to shelter the updated wheel and tire set up with room to spare. In order to dial in the ride height on command, an Airlift suspension set up was installed with Powerflex bushings and Hardrace roll center adjusters added to the mix to dial it all in.
