Offroad Design Is the Official Transfer Case of Ultimate Adventure 2022

We welcome back Offroad Design as one of our longest-running sponsors for UA.

Offroad Design is a company that many others in the off-road industry should aspire to be like. The company is run by enthusiasts and sells products that work, plain and simple. Started in 1997 by Stephen Watson, Offroad Design, sometimes known as ORD, has dabbled in everything from Ultra 4 racing to desert racing to trail rides and camping, as well as everyday use of GMs full-size platform. And although they make many parts for many GM trucks, that's not all they do. They also have a proprietary and highly durable underdrive unit that can be added to just about any 4x4's drivetrain. This unit, the Magnum Underdrive, is most often coupled with the venerable NP205 transfer case, yielding a near-bulletproof four-speed transfer case system. We've incorporated this combination into Jeeps, International Harvesters, Land Rovers, Toyotas, full-size 4x4s, and more. Beyond building this and other truly useful and durable parts for off-road use, the company is also family-owned and operated by true off-road enthusiasts. Fact is, if you need help with just about any 4x4 project, ORD can help … especially with squarebody GM 4x4s, round-fender GM 4x4s, and later-model GM full-size 4x4s, in which they are the foremost experts in off-road.

Offroad Design has participated in and sponsored Ultimate Adventure since 2005, and always brings something cool to the event. Usually it's one of two full-size GM rigs. One is commonly known as the "Convertible," a 1985 Chevy K30, and the other is what we call the "Pool Truck," a 1999 GMC 2500 with a big-block and a manual transmission. The latter is truly capable, and the joke is if it were a pool truck (it isn't) it could service a pool anywhere with ease. ORD is usually represented by a few members of the Watson Family—almost always Stephen Watson, his dad James, Stephen's son Jackson, or Stephen's wife Miranda. We are not sure who will be there this year, but we bet it will be Stephen and one of his family members. These guys rarely if ever have any issues on the trip, and generally ace all the hard obstacles that we encounter on the trails.

Over the years we have used many parts from ORD in our very own Official Ultimate adventure project vehicles, and this year is no different. Our 2020 Ultimate Adventure "Ultimate Shop Truck" is a 2006 Toyota Tundra that started life as a 2WD truck and now sits tall and shiny in retrotastic 1983 Toyota truck livery. The truck features many parts from Offroad Design, but the belle of the ball is definitely the Magnum Underdrive ahead of a Ford NP205 with several upgrades from ORD. We also used some of the company's suspension parts, as well as some brake components and a ton of Stephen's extensive off-road knowledge. With that, we wholeheartedly welcome Offroad Design back to Ultimate Adventure, where the company's transfer case parts truly take our project vehicles to the next level of off-road capability.
