2020 McLaren 570 Expert Review
Reviewed by Staff Writer
The McLaren 570 is the least expensive way into the brand's Sports series range (in the U.S. ). Available in three flavors, 570S, 570S Spider (hardtop convertible), and 570GT, the McLaren 570 range utilizes the British automaker's lightweight carbon fiber monocoque and a mid-engine, RWD layout.
What We Think
Even though the McLaren 570 is one of the least expensive models in the brand's lineup, it offers a wonderful blend of performance and civility. Leaving the car in Normal mode keeps things civilized; however, the tradeoff is lazy throttle response. The 570S comes alive in sportier driving modes, allowing the car to attack corners with gusto. Responsive steering, snappy shifts from the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and a playful chassis make the 570S a blast to drive on your favorite winding roads or the track, while remaining comfortable to serve as a daily drive. The lightweight chassis and 562-hp twin-turbo V-8 provide excellent acceleration even in the heavier 570S Spider and 570GT. However, the transmission lurches and stumbles when you're not driving hard.
Despite the car's performance focus, the McLaren 570 has an interior befitting a high-end luxury performance car. Buttons, knobs, and stalks operate with a satisfying level of tactility. In the 570GT, the additional sound insulation keeps the cabin quiet. However, the 570GT's glass roof lets in too much light and can make the cabin overly hot if you keep the sunshade open for long periods.
