2023 Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid Expert Review

The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is a new version of the five-passenger compact SUV for 2023. It rides on the same platform as the Sorento midsize crossover and joins other electrified Kias such as the Niro , Sorento , and EV6 that feature either a plug-in hybrid or all-electric system. The 2023 Sportage PHEV will compete against the likes of the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Ford Escape PHEV .

Performance and Fuel Economy
Every 2023 Sportage PHEV is expected to be equipped with a 177-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder, plus an electric motor. Power will be directed through a six-speed automatic transmission, and AWD is standard. Kia is targeting an all-electric range of 32 miles. Cargo Space and Interior Room
The fifth-generation Sportage that the 2023 Sportage PHEV is based on is longer and wider than the outgoing model. The standard 2023 Sportage provides more rear legroom and cargo space than the Honda CR-V, so we're expecting the Sportage PHEV to offer the same, if not a little less.
Technology
The Sportage PHEV can be equipped like other 2023 Sportages. Models will feature standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and standard active driver assist technologies such as automatic high beams, lane keeping, and automatic emergency braking. Wireless charging, a 360-degree camera system, and dual 12.3-inch display screens will also be available.
When Can I Buy the 2023 Sportage PHEV?
Kia says the Sportage plug-in will be available in the third quarter of 2022. Expect it to be offered in two grades: X-Line and X-Line Prestige.
