The 2026 Toyota Corolla Hatchback FX's White Wheels Are Rad as Hell

This newest Corolla Hatchback special edition is a nod to the FX16 from the '80s.

There already is a Toyota Corolla FX sedan, but get ready now for the 2026 Toyota Corolla Hatchback FX. It's yet another—more direct, shape-wise—tribute to the 1987 Corolla FX16 hatch, and it brings a collection of fun visual upgrades.

Hatchbacks beat sedans hands down—at least practically speaking—so it's really not that surprising the hatchback version of the FX is way cooler than the sedan version. Like the sedan, the hatchback FX is based on the Corolla hatch's base SE grade and gives it a vented black wing, heritage-inspired rear badging, and 18-inch gloss-white finished alloy wheels held on with black lug nuts. These are certifiably sick. Exterior color options include Blue Crush Metallic, Ice Cap, and Inferno.

As was the case with the FX sedan, there are no powertrain upgrades here. So, under the hood you'll find the Corolla's familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a claimed 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. Toyota estimates it to return fuel economy of 33 mpg combined.

The cabin is expected Corolla fare, save for the orange contrast stitching that climbs across the seats, steering wheel, shifter boot, and doors. However, the new black Sport Touring Seats wear grippy suede inserts, which could theoretically hold you in place better. There's also a wireless charger as standard.

Curiously and unlike the FX sedan, the FX hatchback retains the Corolla lineup's smaller, 8.0-inch infotainment screen. The sedan version of this special edition replaces that 8.0-inch setup with the larger and more updated 10.5-inch screen as standard.

Toyota said it only plans to build 1,600 Corolla Hatchback FX editions, so this is a fairly limited-edition model. You can expect them to start showing up a dealerships in the fall. No pricing as announced at this time, but seeing as the FX sedan is roughly $2,000 more than its non-FX version, we can probably expect pricing for the hatchback FX to start between $27,000 and $28,000.

I got into cars the way most people do: my dad. Since I was little, it was always something we’d talk about and I think he was stoked to have his kid share his interest. He’d buy me the books, magazines, calendars, and diecast models—everything he could do to encourage a young enthusiast. Eventually, I went to school and got to the point where people start asking you what you want to do with your life. Seeing as cars are what I love and writing is what I enjoy doing, combining the two was the logical next step. This dream job is the only one I’ve ever wanted. Since then, I’ve worked at Road & Track, Jalopnik, Business Insider, The Drive, and now MotorTrend, and made appearances on Jay Leno’s Garage, Good Morning America, The Smoking Tire Podcast, Fusion’s Car vs. America, the Ask a Clean Person podcast, and MotorTrend’s Shift Talkers. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching the Fast & Furious movies on repeat. Tokyo Drift is the best one.
